Bamboo Ballroom Edmonton is hosting our 10th Annual Denim Drive!
From now until November 9th bring in your gently used denim to donate and get 20% off new denim. Donations are going to YESS a charity based in Edmonton working with local youth in need. Donate your denim to a good cause and treat yourself to something new at the same time.
Speaking of new what can that 20% off get you? We currently have an amazing range of styles, washes, and brands at Bamboo Ballroom and I am going to tell you about our top 3 denim lines, how they are helping people and the planet and the trends you can expect to see from them!
Fidelity for Modern Classics
Fidelity is a celebrity fan-favorite brand based out of L.A. that prides itself on quality. With premium denim coming from Japan and Italy Fidelity maintains production in North America ensuring a flawless fit & a luxury jean experience.
At Bamboo Ballroom our favorite fit from Fidelity is the iconic Gwen. A high-rise skinny that an essential cut for any denim lover. Available at the boutique in a variety of washes there is a Gwen out there for everyone. Denim trends may be changing but a classic high-rise skinny maintains being a flattering fit and is still a must-have for any closet.
Levi’s Old-School Cool
There is no denim brand more Iconic than Levi’s. I said it. Since 1853 Levi’s has been creating reliable denim in cuts that are both classic and cool as hell. Beyond creating new denim trends Levi’s also continues to work towards sustainability in the denim world with new technology constantly to keep fashion sustainable so you can look and feel great supporting Levi’s.
The most popular Levi’s cut at Bamboo Ballroom is a no brainer - The Wedgie. A high-rise, relaxed, straight cut jean that has changed the way we view so-called “mom jeans” forever. The wedgie is a great way to try out a more vintage-inspired trend without going straight for a bellbottom. Keep it cheeky and try a wedgie!
OneTeaspoon Trendsetting Rebels
If you are looking to shake up your relationship with denim then look no further than the very rad Australian luxury denim label Oneteaspoon. The label describes themselves as “Fantastically Rebellious, Sex Infused Rock N Roll Glamour” and we couldn't agree more. Oneteaspoon also sources their denim lines from vintage producers while working with organic cotton & the most environmentally sustainable denim mills in Europe.
What is our current fave at Bamboo Ballroom from Oneteaspoon? The perfectly named “Awesome Baggies” - a slightly lower rise, straight leg, boyfriend jean that is lightly distressed while leaving you with plenty of styling options to put your spin on the style. For those who are still cautious about the low-rise denim trend coming back keep things balanced with a top just long enough for a french-tuck and embrace the casual edginess of Oneteaspoon’s Awesome denim.
Come say Hi and donate your denim, and in return we’ll give you 20% off your next denim purchase!
Shop ALL of our denim and feel good about supporting local charities and socially conscious denim brands at the same time!
Our denim drive ends November 9th.

How you feel about certain music is subjective but we all can agree on a common theme: we want music that makes us move. Suzy Kenny and Jaclyn Panylyk from Girls Club DJs are in the business of accomplishing just that. From a dozen of local clients, several head-boppin' mixes, and over a decade of experience... The women of Girls Club know how to get a crowd going.
We were lucky enough to photograph the girls' personal style in some of their fave Bamboo Ballroom pieces and we just loved the outfits they picked. From colourful summer fashions to bold sporty graphics we can safely say their musical styles are completely expressed in their outward style.
We also had a chance to sit down with them for an interview, highlighting their timeline of success, hard work, and, most importantly, the music.
I understand you've been doing Girls Club for 10 years now! That's amazing. Can you tell us about the raw beginnings?
SUZ & JAC: Our first public DJ gig was at the (original) Common. Justin, Kyla, Stacey and Rob took a chance and trusted us to man the turntables on Thursday nights. From there we grew our following and got booked to play at venues all over the city.
What was the scene like 10 years ago? How is it different now?
S: Indie rock remixes were huge when we started. That and lots of crunchy electro, techno house and dubstep. Back then people went out to party, hard.
J: Now we focus on disco house and future bass and play to more of a daytime crowd - using music to create an energetic atmosphere no matter the occasion.
You guys have established many clients throughout Edmonton such as The Running Room, the AGA, the Fairmont hotel... And now Jasper lights! Tell us how you have found so much success in establishing these clients within Edmonton.
J: We believe in the brands we work with and support. When taking on a new corporate client we’ve made sure our vision aligns with theirs, that way it’s a win and the relationship naturally develops into a solid partnership.
S: Our professional work experience has been focused on marketing and involved a lot of event planning. We understand where our clients are coming from when tasked with the daunting task of organizing a special event and make sure it’s as easy for them as possible to work with a DJ.
How do you connect to a crowd, especially when you have many different types of clients to play for?
S: First, read the room. What do these people look like they listen to? Try out a song and if their heads start bobbing, feet tapping then you’re on the right track.
J: Say, “not today”, to requests - they are guaranteed to kill the vibe and dancefloor.
What do you usually start with when preparing for a set?
S: Listening to mixtapes by DJs mentioned above (The Magician, Robosonic, Annie Mac, Ferreck and Dawn) to find new songs.
J: Consider the theme and tone of the event and then build an order for the set list that fits the vibe.
Who are your biggest inspirations in music?
S: The Magician, Robosonic, Annie Mac, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Robyn.
J: Ferreck Dawn, Mousse T., Disclosure, Alt-J, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Nicks, Shakey Graves.
When did you start DJing - and what or who were your early passions and influences?
S: The good ol’ radio. I LIVED for Chris Shepard’s Pirate Radio and Electric Circus every Friday night to hear the newest coolest house and techno tracks. Then Annie Mac started her BBC radio show, playing all the newest indie and electro - she made me realize girls could do that too. I’ve been “DJing” since I was 12. Used to record songs I heard on the radio (on cassette tapes) or Much Music videos (VHS) and edit it together to make my own mixtapes to share with friends and family.
J: Decided I wanted to be a Dj at Shambhala while I was watching Ana Sia play at the Rock Pit. She was playing this amazing new bass/hip hop vibe I had never heard before, which I would learn was called Dubstep. Loved the sound and wanted to play it myself. I grew up listening to Classic Rock and dancing in my ballet bodysuits to my Dad playing the guitar and harmonica. I took classical piano lessons for 5 years. Music has always been a part of my life. Got into electronic music listening to Daft Punk, Boys Noize, Diplo, Rusko and dancing the night away at the old Common.
What do you personally consider to be the most memorable moments in your artistic career?
S: Spending 10 days playing as the resident DJ at Jasper Park Lodge’s Christmas in November. We got to meet so many amazing people, from all walks of life.
J: Playing the beach party at Boonstock music festival. DJing Skratch Bastid’s BBQ on the Red Bull tour bus stage - it was epic!
Finally, What's it like being a woman in the DJ scene? We did our research and found less than 10% of female DJs and producers are found at notable festivals. What do you think of that stat?
S: It’s a hard truth. Something we’re working to change by mentoring fellow female DJs and producing our own tracks to help decrease the disparity. Silver lining - as women we have the opportunity to make an impact and be a vehicle for change in the music industry.
J: You have to be ruthless when it comes to bookings. This is a business and often green female DJs are taken advantage of and underpaid. Another not-so-fun fact is that on average, females are paid 30% less than males in the music industry.

The unisex scents, sleek design, and unique smells are what set the locally made fragrances of Libertine apart from any commercial perfumes. In the words of the creator, Joshua Smith:
"I decided I would create Libertine as my response to the overly commercial world of big name perfume (...) There would be no celebrity endorsement, no gender stereotyping; just the highest quality aromatic materials, beautiful design and amazing fragrances." - LF, Our Story
These locally made scents are perfect for any perfume lover who is dying for something different. With scents like 'Sex & jasmine' (our fave!), 'Smoked Bloom', 'Eros Fig', and 'Witch Doctor'... there is something for everyone and each scent is a different experience to enjoy.
For someone totally unique: Witch Doctor! It's a scent like no other - with notes like wormwood, leather, and cedar - Witch Doctor is a great bitter, woody, smokey, scent for any man or woman who is looking for something new.
Justine Ma is a lettering Goddess living and cranking out designs in Edmonton, AB. From catchy prints, heartwarming/hilarious cards, and enamel pins... This woman has done it all! The designs are sleek and clean yet whimsical with the swooping calligraphy style. Our fave is the "Calm the fuck down" design, which is a perfect reminder for ANY household (especially this time of year).
This is what we love about Justine Ma Designs - she can create gorgeously done designs but isn't afraid to contrast the piece with a raunchy and real statement.
For new parents: The "I Love the Shit out of You" Print.
The perfectly fun addition to a little one's nursery. The statement is true and besides... Babies can't read! So gift it to a set of new parents who you love and love what they created.
New brand alert! Terra Norte is a fantastic new jewellery line we are stoked to carry. These designs from Saskatoon feature precious gems like moonstone, rose quartz, and black onyx which stands out so beautifully against the 14K gold plate most of the designs feature. The designs aren't shy of boldness but keep it simple with minimal shapes like circles, triangles, and lines.
For the simple girl: the perfect everyday necklace!
This is the perfect gift for someone who loves her simple pieces she can wear every day with anything; low maintenance but still stands out! We suggest this black onyx and 14K gold plate necklace. Goes with everything but the black contrasted on that gold really makes the piece pop.
Now here is a local Edmonton brand we will never tire of. Saraswati can be described as wearable art - featuring semi-precious stones and spiritual designs. The brand reflects the creator, Sabrina Siponen's, vibrant background of Indian and African heritage. She mixes this background with the natural landscapes of her birthplace - Canada! The designs are timeless, detailed, and high-quality.
For someone who has survived 2018: The Victory Necklace!
This necklace is said to be a tribute to overcoming obstacles. It's a beautiful long necklace featuring a semi-precious gemstone, paired with a handcrafted sword. It's the perfect gift for someone who has had a tough year. It's sentimental, symbolic, and a beautiful design to wear into the new year.
Hopefully, you have the pleasure of gifting them to a loved one... or even better having them gifted to you! Whatever it is, we hope you have the happiest of holidays!

]]>A hat is definitely the accessory of 2018 (and totally 2019 at this point). With this trend here to stay, we urge you to add it as a staple accessory in your wardrobe. Hats are our friends, saving us from a boring look or coming to our aid on a bad hair day -- it's not only a classic accessory but a practical one. Dramatics aside, hats are versatile and a statement. Sure you could go with a plain black or beige one, but we suggest that you opt for the pop your outfit needs.
The Albany Hat from Brixton! We suggest going for a fun fabric or texture in a neutral colour. This black velvet hat from Brixton one adds an interesting element to a look while still staying having the ability to be added to any look. Dressed up or down (or just having a bad hair day) this is a great piece in your wardrobe that you will surely reach for a few times in a regular week.
We ain't MESH-ing around with this one. ;) A bodycon pencil skirt is always a go-to in a women's closet. This is a piece that will never go out of style. Flattering to the curves Mother Nature has blessed us with while still having the length and comfort a modern day woman needs (... and, what the hell, deserves)!
... this piece by local Canadian designer, Suka, because of its unique detail -- A pop of mesh! Simple and classic but edgy, allowing it to be worn in more places than just a work environment. Tuck in a body suit or top, layer with a long tee and have the mesh peek out, or pair it with a blouse and tights for a more professional environment, this piece is the piece that keeps on giving!
Last but not least, a top! Sweaters are always a staple... Especially if you live in Canada. 8 month winter has nothing on our sweater collection! That being said, you can chill out that collection with a few neutral knits that just work with everything.
... this off the shoulder fuzzy knit from Mink Pink! With the softest fabric ever but that lil' peek of skin to still showcase your feminity, this sweater will keep ya comfortable in any outfit! The colour is neutral, making it work with many pieces but the texture is really what makes it special. The 3D popcorn knit allows for an interesting element to a look, making it the perfect versatile piece with a twist. So pair it with jeans, a skirt, or layered over a dress (or even all of the pieces mentioned in this post) -- this sweater definitely gives you options.

Your fave trend from the 90's called -- It told us you look totally rad in plaid! We love the witchy vibes of this look, perfect for the month of October. Layering slip dresses is another trend reminiscent of the 90s and our fave way to layer it with a sheer top. Totally transforms the look! Definitely, a print to style into your current wardrobe.
All Lionel Richie memes aside, this is the perfect knit for the season. Trend-wise it hits all the checkpoints -- Mustard? Check. Dynamic 3D textures? Check. Chunky knit? Check, check, check! We love how this knit pairs with this Levi's denim skirt. Blue and yellow are a great combo. Also, we can't ignore the cuteness of those bows? Denim and knits are a no-brainer for fall but by integrating interesting detailed pieces, you're breaking new boundaries.

Bring your florals into fall! Finally! It seemed like such an injustice for this print to be banned from the colder months. Justice has been served with this sheer bodysuit from C'est Moi. The bold print amps of any pair of denim... Though, the ones pictured are pretty killer alone. These Neon Blonde jeans are skinny and flattering in all the right places, but that lace up detail is the real show stopper. Once again, it's all in the details this fall!

Scrunchies are totally back and we couldn't be more excited! These velvet ones from Ernest & Kelly add a playful pop to any outfit. Despite the playful touches of the backpack and scrunchie, the skinny jeans and sweater add a chic vibe to the look. We love the contrast! Side note, don't these jeans just look INCREDIBLE on Amber? She definitely left with a pair of these when the shoot was done (we don't blame her).
Above: Suzie Dress by Gentle Fawn, Samia Coat by Soia & Kyo
It's no secret. Bodycon dresses look amazing on all female forms. This is no exception for Amber, who looks absolutely stunning in this dress from Gentle Fawn. Warm colours are definitely her friend. Layered with a fabulous drapey wool coat and you have a look for any night out during the fall.
Above: Yumi Jumpsuit, Ernest & Kelly Velvet Scrunchie
Okay. We love jumpsuits on a spiritual level. Anything that gets us one step closer to wearing PJs out in public is our jam. This jumpsuit from Yumi is absolutely that -- soft form-fitting fabric that hugs you in allllllll the right places. It is also slaying the latest primary colour trend with the quirky print! This is a favourite of ours for sure.

Everyone will be green with envy of your style in any of these pieces. It is said that the colour is associated with ambition, elegance, and power. So go get it, ladies! Slap on some green and make all your dreams come true (and look stunning while you do it)!
Yeah, yeah... Blue is usually a colour associated with sadness... but not when it comes to fabulous clothes! It is said that blue is associated with loyalty, confidence, and wisdom. So add a little pep in your step (and your outfit) and add touches of blue with a scrunchie, a bag, or go all out in this amazing sweater from Mink Pink! Let's just say... It's a wise choice to be blue. ;)

Red is back with a vengeance this year. This powerful colour has been popping up since the summer and we're glad to see that it's sticking around for fall/winter! This colour is associated with leadership, love, and courage. Whenever you need to exude sexuality for a hot date or nail that presentation at work, red is for you! Here are some red pieces for every day -- a puffer jacket to jazz up any grey winter day, a cozy but sleek sweater, and a bold print cardi!
Show your ambition with green, exude confidence in blue, and be courageous in red. In the end, Whatever colour... All of these feelings come from within; Fun clothes just help them come out!

]]>Get those creative juices flowing! A little more thought is needed when you're looking for pieces that can last but also fit the bill of an idea. Luckily, we're here to help! Here are a few last minute ideas with clothes available in the shop!
Decade costumes never die -- and a 1920's look is no exception. The maximalism stylings of the 20's are reminiscent of what is trendy now, making it quite simple to find a dress to work as a costume for Halloween. You can even bring the dress back in a sleek, modern and understated way for the holidays! Total bang for your buck (which wasn't a problem in the roaring 20s when everyone was making bank).
Wes Anderson's universe is diverse with quirky characters to portray this Halloween. Margot Tenenbaum may be a complex person but her design is quite simple for a last minute Halloween costume. Depending on your style as well... These pieces can be worn all year!
Above: Belinde Jacket by Minimum and Rina Dress by Gentle Fawn
All you need it a faux fur coat, a striped dress, a fabulous bob pulled back with a bright red barrette, and dark eye makeup. Don't forget the fake cig!
... and who knows, maybe you'll discover your talent as a playwright.
Above: Yellow Ruffle Dress by BB Dakota
The dress from the F16 collection is unbelievable... But unfortunately so is the price tag. Lucky enough we have a similar but slightly more subdued option for your Halloween look. All you need now is a baseball bat, fabulous hair and accessories, and an (allegedly) cheating husband. But don't worry! You'll go on a world tour with one another in a few years.
So there are a few ideas! We hope you all have a fabulous Halloween and an even more fabulous costume. Have any other ideas for last-minute costumes? Comment below!
